Dilip Morje has received partial relief in the ongoing demolition drive against his structures at Temwada-Morjim coastal area over alleged Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) violations. According to Adv Prasad Shahapurkar, the High Court has granted temporary relief by staying the demolition of Morje’s original residential house.
The matter originated from a complaint filed by landowner Anil Naik before the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), alleging large-scale illegal constructions in the area. The case later reached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the High Court, which ordered the removal of 23 structures belonging to 10 persons.
Morje approached the High Court seeking protection for his original house, stating that he had obtained permissions to reconstruct the 97-square-metre structure. The complainants, however, alleged that the house was expanded and later converted for commercial use.
Morje’s family claimed the house was their original residence and that he had a ‘Mhaje Ghar’ certificate. Meanwhile, police presence remained heavy at Temwada as the demolition drive entered its third day. Three small structures belonging to Morje were earlier demolished. Morje and his son Dhruv are in police custody in connection with an alleged assault on an advocate.
