The Bombay High Court at Goa has taken suo motu cognizance of a report in the media of potentially illegal clearing of sand dune vegetation at the Khobra-Vaddo section of Calangute beach and has directed the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, the Forest Department, the GCZMA, the North Goa Deputy Collector and the village panchayat of Calangute to file their responses to the petition by December 9.
According to a report in the media, a private resort has been clearing vegetation less than 50 metres from the beach sand dunes at Khobra-Vaddo within the no development zone of the beach and seemingly without any permissions.
The villagers of Calangute had earlier raised an alarm about the illegal activity.
