Stakeholders preferred to keep their fingers crossed with just three days to go for the traditional Carnival float parade in the commercial capital and the High Court scheduled to resume hearing on the parade route on Friday.
While an air of carnival festivity rent the air in the commercial capital with carnival hoardings and cutouts making their presence felt at junctions, the High Court is expected to clear the suspense over the parade route when the authorities file their affidavits in the Court on Friday.
Sources in the know say the authorities, including the district Collectorate and the Goa police, which had in the past rooted for the Ravindra bhavan-Nehru stadium route, find themselves in a tight spot as the political establishment has strongly favoured the return of the float parade back to the Holy Spirit-MMC Square route.
Chairman of Margao Carnival Committee Arthur D’Silva had on Wednesday told the media that the Committee has decided to hold the float parade on the old route following the decision taken by the government.
The Carnival float parade in Margao is scheduled on Sunday and the Carnival committee headed by Arthur has set in motion the process to host a series of festivities in the commercial capital, including traditional Khell tiatr in all 25 municipal
wards.
The issue over the carnival float parade reached the High Court after a resident of Fatorda, Custodio Dias filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), making a strong case for the holding of all parades and processions in the city on the Ravindra bhavan-Nehru stadium road from the security and traffic point of view.
