While the Health Minister was told by patients how the ambulance network has failed to come to the rescue of critical patients waiting to be shifted to the GMC, Bambolim, for further treatment, Rane had a look at the bed linen and questioned the staff on the stains on the linen.
Doctors pointed out to shortage of anaesthesia technicians, hampering work in the hospital.
The health minister found that the air conditioner in the OT was not working and directed the health Director S Dalvi to get a brand new AC installed in the hospital. “Hospicio is facing a host of functional issues. We will attempt to solve them one by one. It has been brought to my knowledge that hospital is facing a shortage of anaesthesia technicians. We have to ensure that the hospital does not suffer because of basic amenities,” he said, adding that he would personally monitor the situation at Hospicio till the new district hospital is commissioned by the government in April 2018.
He directed the hospital authorities to change the bed linen time to time, saying that GMC has outsourced laundry and there ought to be no complaints on this count. “One has to understand that we cannot make any major improvements at Hospicio. The only answer is that the situation is monitored till the commissioning of the new hospital,” he added.
Following complaints from citizens, the Health Minister visited the mortuary at the T B Hospital atop Monte Hill and found to his shock nine unclaimed bodies lying there for several months. “There’s one body from Cuncolim police station which has been lying at the mortuary since January 2016. These bodies should be immediately disposed off to create space for other bodies,” he said, while promising to write a letter to the District Collector, South, as well as the district police chief to dispose of the nine bodies at the earliest.
