Health, PWD officials explore possibility of shifting health centre, inspect Hospicio

MARGAO
After questions were raised over the structural stability of the building housing the Margao Urban Health Centre and the safety of the visitors and staff, Health Director Dr Geeta Kakodkar along with health and PWD officials inspected the old Hospicio building on Saturday noon to explore the possibility of housing the health centre if the situation warranted.

Much to the relief of the officials, the one-storied old Hospicio building (not the heritage building), which once housed the blood bank, canteen, OPD services, besides the administrative wing, appeared well maintained and came as an option for the health services if the decision is taken to shift the health centre to the old Hospicio building.

In fact, Health Director, Dr Kakodkar suggested to Margao Urban Health Officer Dr Succorro Quadros that he can straightway shift the immunisation section of the health centre to this portion of the old Hospicio building.

Accompanied by PWD, Executive Engineer Elvis D’Souza, Health Officer Dr Soccorro and health officials, Dr Kakodkar said the ground-plus one storied old Hospicio building could be considered for shifting of the immunisation section, which is now housed in a makeshift structure at the health centre building. She, however, hastened to add that the health services has left it to the Margao Urban Health Officer to take a call on the number of services he wants to shift from the health centre building to the old Hospicio building.
