Adventure tourists will be in for a thrilling experience as white-water rafting activity of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) began on Saturday on the Mhadei river in Uste-Nagargao for the current season.
The white water rafting activity was inaugurated by Nagargao Sarpanch Sandhya Khadilkar in the presence of Deputy Sarpanch Rama Kharvat, panch Rajendra Abhyankar and a number of locals.
White water rafting, an activity introduced by then chief minister late Manohar Parrikar 10 years ago, takes place for about three months during the monsoons.
It draws a large number of adventure tourists from across the State and other states. The 10-km route takes about 90 minutes and is priced at Rs 1,600 per person.
Speaking to media persons, Nagargao Sarpanch Sandhya Khadilkar said white water rafting enables adventure tourists to experience the natural beauty of Sattari taluka.
“Employment opportunities will be available through such activity. This is an activity of the GTDC and certain funds are handed over to the panchayat every year and this revenue enables the panchayat to undertake development in the village,” said Khadilkar.
Panchayat member Rajendra Abhyankar said white water rafting starts from Uste and ends at Sawarde Tar and a large number of adventure tourists have been enjoyed white water rafting activity.
Providing more details, white water rafting expert Naushad said white water rafting is available to tourists during the rainy season.
