MARGAO
Will the Margao Municipal Council get the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to submit the report on the nature of waste lying inside the Sonsodo waste treatment plant on Tuesday when the hearing in the Fomento-Margao Municipal matter comes up in the South Goa district Court?
At the last date of hearing, GSPCB officials were conspicuous by their absence and the fate of the report on the nature of the waste lying inside the plant remains unknwown.
The district Court had earlier directed the GSPCB to examine the nature of the waste, whether it is excluded or inert, to resolve the question whether it is the responsibility of the MMC or Fomento to cart away the over 1000 tonnes of waste lying inside the plant.
The GSPCB report will also help the Court take a call as Fomento at the last date of hearing had filed an affidavit stating that the waste treatment plant is choked with waste, leaving the company will no option but to stop running the plant.
Meanwhile, the Margao Municipal Council is expected to advance its arguments on the application moved by Fomento that the company should not be dispossessed from the plant and stop the MMC from sending waste to the plant.
Fomento has also threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against the MMC over its failure to pay Rs 25 lakh to the company as per the district Court’s order.
