A number of trees got uprooted and damaged houses and electricity wires, as heavy rains have lashed Pernem since the last two days.
Roads were inundated in several villages in the taluka and many locals blamed the poorly maintained roadside gutters for the flooded roads. The power supply was also disrupted in many areas
Meanwhile, a small portion of a safety wall under construction collapsed at Ashwem-Mandrem road, while several fields were filled with rainwater.
The Morjim temple at Tembwada was also flooded and the mahajans of the temple have requested for the panchayat to address the problem of urgently cleaning the gutters.
