Mapusa recorded the highest with 70 mm of rainfall followed by Ponda with 60 mm and Panaji, Sanquelim, Valpoi and Canacona all recording in excess of 40 mm over much of Friday night and Saturday.
The seasonal deficit which stood at around -607 mm on August 28 is now marginally lower at -576.3 and is expected to fall further if the current trend continues.
This is significantly lower than the seasonal deficit which crossed 697.5 mm on August 22 before falling lower.
The weatherman has predicted that rain and thundershowers will continue at least until August 30.
The surge in rainfall is blamed on a persistent upper air cyclonic circulation over the Northeast Madhya Pradesh region and the area in the neighbourhood between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
