Speaking on the sidelines of a function to release a book on his late father Manohar Parrikar authored by senior journalist Sadguru Patil, the former chief minister’s older son Utpal said he recently learnt how ‘trust’ can let you down in politics.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was the chief guest at the function.
He said his father had taught him two things: trust and keeping one’s word. He recounted how Parrikar spoke of his trust in the allies and agreed to take on the leadership of the State at the cost of the Union Defence Ministry.
Utpal also spoke about the types of trusts: First trust is what you keep on your family members, while the second type is just a ‘word’ in politics.
While speaking of promises, Utpal said his father kept his word and accommodated the MGP, despite getting a clear mandate with 21 seats in the 2012 elections.
Utpal claimed that trust in politics can boomerang at any time and cannot be depended upon. He claimed he recently learned how harmful trust in politics can be.
The comment raised several eyebrows and reveals the hurt of Parrikar Jr in the context of having been denied the BJP nomination for the Panaji by-election, necessitated by his father’s death, the polling for which was held on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the book ‘Goa, Politics and Parrikar’ takes a close look at Parrikar’s life.
Although from the smallest State in the country, the late Parrikar’s impact on its politics has been big. He is one of the few Goan leaders who was a known face throughout India, even before becoming Union Defence Minister.
Keeping this in mind, journalist Sadguru Patil’s book looks at Parrikar’s various contributions during his time in politics and tries to give its readers a closer look at one of the tallest leaders of this country, claimed senior author Vishram Gupte at the book’s release.
Gupte, who was the chief speaker at the function, highlighted that the book is an unbiased look at Parrikar.
