Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar will descend along the Chandor-Areal road to look out for an alternate route in the event the State Highway project passing through Chandor is scrapped by the government.
The TCP minister along with senior PWD officials, besides local residents, had a meeting in Panaji to find out a way to the opposition raised by the people of Chandor to the proposed state highway.
The TCP Minister said that he has made it abundantly clear to the PWD Minister that the proposed state highway cannot pass through Chandor for the simple reason that the area where the proposed highway will be passing is a hub of history and heritage and cannot be allowed to be destroyed by a highway.
After much discussion between the Minister, officials and the local residents, it was finally decided that the TCP and PWD ministers would descend along the proposed state highway to inspect an alternate route to bypass Chandor. "The PWD Minister is convinced that the SH cannot pass through Chandor given the heritage status of the village. Hence, we have decided to visit the village and look out for other alternatives and options," Sardesai said.
