In his first visit to the State on his appointment as Himachal Pradesh Governor, Rajendra Arlekar on Monday morning offered prayers at the Lord Damodar Temple in Vasco and sought blessings for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
"I have grown up in Vasco and always sought blessings of Lord Damodar. The lord has always blessed me and this is one reason why I have scaled such a great height.”
“Nine persons were killed in a tragic mishap when boulders came crashing down in Kinnaur village of HP and while I am here in Goa, I thought it best to offer prayers to Lord Damodar and seek blessings for the people of Himachal Pradesh,” said Arlekar.
In Vasco, people across religions have faith in Lord Damodar and this religious fervour goes back around 122 years ago when Vasco was affected by a plague and people had gone to the Lord Damodar temple in Zambaulim and offer prayers.
Soon after their prayers, the plague came to an end and the Damodar temple was established in Vasco. The port town has been celebrating the Saptah Festival since then and this year will mark the 122nd Lord Damodar Saptah Festival in Vasco.
Meanwhile, Arlekar met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Monday morning.
It was a courtesy call as Arlekar had assumed charge as Himachal Pradesh Governor and P S Sreedharan Pillai had assumed charge as Governor of Goa recently. The meeting lasted for about 45 minutes.
