The GMC vendors, whose kiosks and stalls were demolished by the government in an early morning drive, have now petitioned Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai seeking his intervention in providing relief.
In their petition to the governor, the vendors have highlighted that they were carrying out their permitted business to meet their livelihood by providing much needed service to the patients and families who visit the GMC hospital.
“We would like to submit to you and request your intervention in solving our livelihood issue as the State administration have in a very careless and reckless manner razed our stalls in a totally inhuman manner on the early morning of July 1, thereby snatching our livelihood in this pandemic,” the petition states.
“Most of us have been carrying our business since the inception of GMC hospital complex. We are being harassed by Goa administration in various ways and though it has been established and proved that we have all the required licenses and permissions to carry our business the sudden action of destroying our stalls was undertaken under the supervision of the North Goa Collector,” the petition further adds.
In the petition, the vendors have gone on to add that they had assured the authorities that they would shift to any alternative site provided by administration.
The vendors have further urged the governor to look into the injustice meted out to them and take strict action on the authorities.
“We humbly request you to direct the government to provide compensation and provide alternate site to us as demanded by us in our letter,” the petition concludes while expressing confidence that the governor would grant them justice and enable them to earn their livelihood.
