A two-day Hindi Workshop on the use of technical terminology in polar and marine research was conducted by Science and Technical Vocabulary Commission, New Delhi at National Polar and Ocean Research Station, Goa on December 27 and 28.
It was organized all over Goa. Over 160 officers and employees of 21 institutions from across Goa attended the workshop which was inaugurated by Professor Avnish Kumar, Chairman of Science and Technical Terminology Commission and Dr M Ravichandran, Director, National Polar and Ocean Research Center, Goa. The special guest at the inaugural function was Professor Ravindranath Mishra of the Hindi Department of Goa University and Dr Rajiv Nigam, a renowned oceanographer, for the finale.
The program details were read by Chakpram Binodini, Program Officer, Science and Technical Terminology Commission. A total of nine papers were presented by the invited scholars from various institutions across the country. Dr Ravi Mishra, Scientist & Official Language official, National Polar and Ocean Research Center, Goa proposed a vote of thanks and conducted the proceedings.
At the workshop, the need to create new technical vocabulary in Hindi and the need for publication of a special edition in Hindi on studies conducted in polar and oceanography was discussed at length.
