Assuring that facilities at the new Tuem government hospital would be made available before elections, the health minister has stated that health workers employed on contracts during the pandemic would be made permanent at the hospital.
He was speaking at a function to felicitate 130 frontline workers on Tuesday, in the presence of GTDC Chairman and Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte, Sarpanch Suhas Naik, Director of Health Services Dr Jose D’Sa, Dr Rajendra Borkar, Tuem Health Officer Dr Vidhya Parab, Mandrem BJP Block President Madhu Parab and Dr Manasvi Alve.
Defending the government’s decision on tackling the Covid pandemic, the health minister said when the situation was grim, health authorities had to admit 90 patients in the wards which had a capacity for only 50 patients.
“The government tried to save every life. Elected representatives should start Covid centres in each village and they will receive the full support of the government," he added.
Praising Sopte's work in the Mandrem constituency, the health minister said a dialysis centre will also be started in the new hospital building.
Sopte said he did not care much if he was not a minister despite being elected thrice as an MLA.
"People are happy with my work. My constituency is entirely dependent on tourism and in order to restart the tourism industry, it is necessary for all locals to get 100% vaccinated,” he said.
Director of Health Services Dr Jose D’Sa and Dr Rajendra Borkar also spoke at the event.
