HMS Defender makes port call at Mormugao

The Royal Navy Ship HMS Defender entered Mormugao Port on Sunday. The ship is commanded by Commander Richard Hewitt, who will call on the Flag Officer Commanding Goa Area during the stay. 

The visit programme also includes a volleyball match between Indian Navy and Royal Navy, visit by Indian Navy to the ship and Royal Navy to INS Hansa and receptions hosted by each side.   

Additionally, the ship will conduct Subject Matter Expert Exchange and Capability Demonstration.  

HMS Defender, manned by 37 officers and 212 sailors, is a Type 45 class Destroyer commissioned in 2013. 

She has a length of about 154 m, a displacement of 8,000 tonnes and a top speed of 30 knots.
