Setting aside political rivalries, BJP Goa State president Damu Naik and Goa Forward Party chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai came together on Tuesday to celebrate Holi at the historic Lord Damodar Temple near Nehru Stadium in Fatorda.
The two leaders, often seen on opposing sides of the political spectrum, greeted each other warmly and applied gulal to one another’s faces, symbolising the spirit of unity and goodwill that the festival represents. Their supporters also joined in the celebrations, adding colour and cheer to the festive atmosphere.
Earlier, Naik and Sardesai offered prayers together at the temple before participating in the traditional rituals. Speaking on the occasion, Naik said he prayed for Holi to mark an end to negativity and usher in prosperity and harmony for the people of Goa.
“We have played Holi since there cannot be any differences before God,” Naik remarked.
He also highlighted a long-standing Fatorda tradition observed during Holi. “People first offer gulal to Lord Damodar and then light candles. This tradition, which began many years ago, continues to be followed even today,” he said.
Sardesai, while accepting Holi greetings from his political rival, expressed hope that the festival would bring positive developments for Goa and its people.
The rare moment of camaraderie between the two leaders underscored the unifying spirit of Holi, transcending political divides, at least for the day.
