Home Guard volunteers honoured for their selfless services during Covid pandemic

DGP/Ex-Officio Commandant General Home Guards and Director Civil Defence Mukesh Kumar Meena has said that Civil Defence and Home Guard volunteers play a vital role in rendering selfless service to the nation. Their contribution to the community has been praiseworthy. During the Covid-19 pandemic both the civil defence and Home Guard volunteers have played the role of Corona warriors.

The Commandant General Home Guards and Director Civil Defence was speaking at the 58th Home Guard and Civil Defence Raising Day function at Police HQ Grounds in Panaji on Sunday.

Speaking further, Meena said that the Home Guard and Civil Defence organisations play an important role in harnessing community efforts at the time of crisis.

Civil Defence volunteers namely John Aguiar, Uday Kuri, Ruoesh Parvatkar while Home Guard volunteers Rafiq Bagwale, Inansevic Dias and Savlo Velip were felicitated as “Covid warriors” for rendering good services during the pandemic. While Aguiar was honoured for writing two songs on Corona awareness which were very popular on social media and also volunteering for human trials for Covaxin, CD volunteer Uday Kuri worked day and night creating awareness on Covid pandemic in the community and assisted in distribution of grocery and essentials, Rupesh Parvatkar volunteered for human trials for Covaxin, Hg Rafiq Bagwale created awareness in Vasco by composing songs and singing on the streets during lockdown, HG Dias was awarded for good services in traffic duties at Mandovi bridge junction and HG Savlo Velip for working selflessly and beyond duty timings for the safety of the people at large during the lockdown period.

Deputy Commandant General of Home Guards and Deputy Director Civil Defence, Bosco George, IPS lauded the good work by the Home Guards and Civil Defence volunteers in the State and extended his greetings to the members of the organisation.

Earlier, a Guard of Honour Commanded by Sr Platoon Commander Usman Shaikh was presented to the Commandant General of Home Guards and Deputy Director Civil Defence in his arrival. Senior officers of the Police Department, JSOCD/DCHG Uday Parab were present along with Home Guards, Civil Defence volunteers and staff of the organisation.
