Even as families of several students still stranded in war-torn Ukraine continue to battle stress in anxious wait for their return, another Goan student, Sudhanshu Salgudi, returned safely and landed in Delhi on Wednesday.
Hailing from Honda in Sattari, Salgudi, along with several other Indians, was evacuated on a flight operated by the government of India under its ongoing Operation Ganga.
On Tuesday, Rupal Gosavi, another Goan studying medicine in Ukraine, had returned safely.
Goa's Director for NRI affairs, Anthony D'Souza is the nodal officer coordinating with officials managing Operation Ganga with regard to the safe evacuation of Goan students in Ukraine.
Thus far, details of at least 17 Goans who had been studying in Ukraine have been documented by the State government and three of them have already returned.
D'Souza is regularly contacting the families of the students and updating them on the status of their kin. State government officials are also personally visiting the homes of these students stranded in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, as soon as Salgudi's safe arrival in Delhi was confirmed, Goa's NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar tweeted:
"Today, Shri Sudhanshu Shashank Salgudi, a Goan student studying in #Ukraine landed at Delhi, on his way to Goa."
The former MP said, there are still 14 students from Goa who are still in the war-torn country but added that their repatriation is being closely worked on by coordinating with the Centre's rescue mission.
