CANACONA
A group of children from Canacona could well get a rare opportunity to visit the country’s border next year to tie Rakhis on soldiers.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Arlekar put forth his wish to facilitate such a trip next year and for now, the governor said he would visit the India-China border and personally hand over to the Indian forces the Rakhis presented to him by schools in Canacona.
He was addressing the ‘Ek Rakhi Sainik Ke Nam' programme organised by Shree Balram Education Society at Poinguinim.
“Since running Chaitanya Prathisthan for last 12 years and collecting Rakhis for defence personnel, we had been unsuccessful in visiting and personally delivering Rakhis to Jawans at the borders.”
“But this year, all Rakhis handed over to me by the Canacona schools will be personally delivered to the jawans/military personnel guarding our border with China. I will be visiting military personnel guarding our nation’s border in Himachal Pradesh. Our Jawans will appreciate that people from Poinguinim-Canacona remembered them on Raksha Bandhan,” said Arlekar.
“If it is possible, I would like to take a few children from Canacona to the Indian border next year to tie Rakhis on soldiers,” Arlekar said.
Students from the Balram Residential High School at Adarsh Gram in Amone-Poinguinim and other schools handed over Rakhi packets to Arlekar, to be handed over to the armed forces.
Arlekar said his recent appointment as Governor of HP was a responsibility and not a position. “I accepted this responsibility as devoted Karyakarta of the people. Right from the beginning, I used to travel on a scooter as an RSS Sevak and stay in various parts of Canacona and hold Shakas. People used to tease me as Bhaji-Pao party man.
Balram Education Society founding Chairman Ramesh Tawadkar, Balram Residential High School headmistress Savita Tawadkar and Youth Hostel General Manager Anant Joshi also spoke at the event.
Others present included Shrishthal Sarpanch Datta Velip, Panch Ganesh Gaonkar and Balram Education Society Joint Secretary Janu Tawadkar.
HP Guv suggests military school in Canacona
CANACONA:
Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Arlekar suggested the idea of a military school in Canacona, as it would ensure general discipline among people.
“Schooling at a military school does not necessarily mean one had to join the military, but studying in military school will foster discipline which will help youth in whatever position, occupation and job they undertake.”
“I remember during the HP Governor’s Independence Day party, the chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court during a casual discussion felt that everyone should undergo at least two years of military training in India to ensure discipline among the masses,” said Arlekar.
