The State of Goa recorded two deaths to Covid in the past 24 hours. With this the cumulative death toll goes to 3,182.
There were 120 new cases, after testing 4,398 samples, with a recorded positivity percentage of 2.7%.
The number of recovered patients in the state rose to 1,68,878 with 114 persons getting discharged on Friday. The number of active patients stands at 906.
The recovery rate stands at 97.64%. Seventeen new admissions to various hospitals and the patients discharged were 9.
Goa is preparing for the anticipated third wave of Covid, and the first booth level training workshop under the national health volunteers’ campaign was held on Friday at two places in North Goa, Valpoi and Paryem.
“These workshops are for training volunteers from each booth in the State, to combat the third wave, if it hits the State and on day one 160 volunteers received training to deal with Covid,” said Dr Shekhar Salkar, the State-charge of the campaign.
Two persons, a male and a female volunteer, from each of the booths across the State would receive the training and so 80 persons from Valpoi’s 40 booths were trained on the first day, along with 80 from Paryem constituency’s 40 booths.
The workshop was inaugurated by the health minister in the presence of Shaizin Shaikh, Dr Shekhar Salkar, Dr Sneha Bhagwat, Ramnath Dangui, Govind Korgaonkar and others. Dr Mehul Budkule spoke on the concept of health and covid appropriate behaviour and Dr Arya Pitre guided on immunity, diet and yoga. Dr Sneha Bhagwat spoke on the preparedness of the third wave of Covid while Dr Shekhar Salkar demonstrated what a six-minute test is and how to perform it. Komal Pawar guided on how to use the app and upload the programmes. Satish Dhond also addressed the gathering.
