The century-and-half-year old Hospicio heritage building will be converted into a training centre for various health programmes once the new 500-bedded district hospital is commissioned six months now.
The Portuguese era heritage structure also received a compliment from none other than Health Minister Vishwajit Rane as the structure has withstood the test of time over the last 150 years.
The Health Minister said while the Portuguese era Hospicio building has withstood the test of time, buildings constructed post-Liberation period are crumbling at the Hospicio hospital premise.
“The Hospicio building has outlived its time. The heritage part of the Hospicio building will be utilised as a training centre on the lines of the renovated Azilo hospital, Mapusa”, the Health Minister told the media during his visit to Hospicio on Saturday.
Replying to a question, the Health Minister said the heritage structure can be put to use to conduct different types of training programs under the Health services. “The heritage build will be utilized on the same lines like Azilo after the medical services are shifted to the district hospital,” he said.
He said a proposal to this effect has been moved to the Health Directorate to designate Hospicio’s heritage centre as a training centre for programmes under the Health services.
