Hospitality sector told to tighten security

Hotels, clubs told to monitor staff

PANAJI

With tourist safety, illegal activities and cyber fraud emerging as key concerns across the tourism belt, Goa Police on Friday called on hotel, restaurant and club owners to strengthen security at their establishments, monitor staff conduct and promptly report illegal activities.

Director General of Police Alok Kumar chaired a meeting with tourism stakeholders from the coastal belt to improve coordination between the police and the hospitality industry and ensure public safety, law and order and responsible tourism.

The police stressed the need for greater accountability in security arrangements, including the installation of CCTV cameras, compliance with fire safety norms and monitoring of entry and exit points.

Stakeholders were also asked to ensure courteous behaviour by their staff, particularly bouncers, and adhere to prescribed noise limits.

The police called for better coordination with local police stations and the Traffic Police to manage tourist movement and respond promptly to incidents and law and order situations.

Cyber safety was another key focus, with the police advising hospitality operators to remain alert to fraudsters targeting tourists and customers through fake hotel booking offers.

Stakeholders were urged to immediately report illegal activities and maintain regular coordination with their respective police stations.
