Health care facilities in both the public and private sector held mock drills on Tuesday to ascertain Covid-19 preparedness in the face of an expected wave following surges in cases in some countries, especially China.
The drill involved enumerating resources available to tackle Covid at the public health facilities across the State and also assessing the operational alacrity of the system to tackle situations in the eventuality of a surge in cases.
Health officials said, private hospitals which were also part of the State's Covid-19 response in previous surges in 2020 and 2021 are also expected to file reports with the health department related to the facilities available with them.
Some of the resources assessed and reviewed in the drill include isolation beds availability, ICU beds, ventilator supported beds, beds with oxygen supply, doctors, nurses and paramedics.
Several other States in the country have also conducted similar drills after the Centre last week took cognisance of the reports that cases were surging in China and some other countries.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, the exercise was conducted as a follow up to the meeting of State health ministers chaired by the Union Health Minister recently.
"Further to the virtual conference chaired by Union Health Minister Shri @mandsukhmandviya Ji on Covid preparedness, our team at Covid designated hospitals, @GoaGmc and North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa conducted a mock drill to review preparations in case of surge of cases," Rane tweeted.
Meanwhile three new cases were reported in the State during the 24-hour reporting period of Monday-Tuesday. The total caseload of Covid-19 cases in the State is now 19, the health bulletin said.
