Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said human development and infrastructure went hand in hand and asserted that the government was committed to providing all facilities to the people of Goa for bettering their lives.     

Sawant was speaking at Saligao after commencing the work of hot-mixing of Chogm road at Saligao circle by breaking a coconut in the presence of PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar, former Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar and sarpanch Lafira Gomes.

The CM said that Calangute was a tourist destination and keeping this in mind the Public Works Department has undertaken the work of improvement and hot-mixing of the 5.8-km Chogm road from Porvorim junction till the Saligao Calangute border by spending  Rs 5.73 crore. 

Describing the work, he said, "This will include raising the road at various locations, its widening without demolishing houses and construction of drains." 

Sawant further mentioned that the state government is in the process of augmenting the water supply in Bardez taluka. "The water treatment plant at Porvorim will start functioning within the next 8 to 10 days. 5 MLD treated water will be released in the beginning and thereafter the remaining 10 MLD," he informed. 

PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said the state government was in the process of solving the water shortage problem of Bardez by setting up water treatment plants at Vagator and Pillerne Industrial Estate. 

He said work of the national highway will be completed by December 19, 2021, and the widening and hot-mixing of Chogm road within 10 months.

Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar said Chogm road needs major road level correction so that water does not accumulate on both sides. "The actual work of hot-mixing will start in November this year after widening of the road wherever possible and after proper leveling and construction of drainages," he stated.

He also touched upon the water shortage issue.  

Former sarpanch of Saligao panchayat Eknath Oroskar compered the programme.
