Loutolim villagers woke up on Sunday to hear the shocking news of a major burglary in a house at Carvotta last night.
A lone masked thief is believed to have lifted away gold and jewellery from the house of Brima Quadros worth around Rs 10 lakh.
Incidentally, the family had purchased gold ornaments from a jewellery shop worth around Rs 1.25 lakh just three days ago.
After the burglary came to light on Sunday morning, the Maina Curtorim police requisitioned the services of forensic team to obtain clues in the investigations.
The burglary came to light on Sunday morning when Brima woke up to go for the early morning mass only to find the house burgled and the jewellery stolen. Brima along with her baby was sleeping in one room, while the elder daughter was in another room, which has been burgled by the thief.
Her worst fears came true after she found a box containing watches on a counter. When she checked the cupboard, it was found ransacked and the jewellery missing. While fleeing with the booty, the culprit left behind a fake jewellery item in the house.
Sources said a CCTV has captured a tall person, wearing a mask entering the house. The culprit is believed to have effected entry into the house through the rear door.
Incidentally, the daily press release issued from the office of district Superintendent of Police, South made no mention of the house burglary at Loutolim.
