As the month-long door-to-door Phase-I exercise of Census 2027 concluded in Goa, the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO) on Monday said that the data collected through the House Listing Operations (HLO) will serve as a crucial statistical base for governance, infrastructure planning and implementation of welfare schemes across the State.

In a statement, the DCO said that the House Listing Operations under Census 2027 were successfully carried out from April 16 to May 15 across Goa using a mobile application-based digital platform, marking a shift towards technology-driven census operations.

The exercise involved comprehensive enumeration of houses, households and civic amenities in both urban and rural areas of the State.

“The information gathered during the first phase will provide an important statistical foundation for planning, governance, infrastructure development and welfare programme implementation in the coming years,” the DCO said.

The Directorate added that preparations are now underway for the next stage of Census 2027- Population Enumeration, which is likely to be held from February, next year onwards.

The DCO further informed that enumerators and supervisors completed the field exercise within the stipulated period, with extensive training programmes conducted beforehand to familiarise personnel with the digital application and operational procedures.

The department said the app-based implementation reflects the government’s push towards modernising census activities through digital technology, improved transparency and efficient data management systems.

The Directorate also acknowledged the cooperation extended by residents during the month-long survey and thanked enumerators, supervisors, district administration officials, local bodies and other stakeholders for ensuring smooth execution of the exercise.
