House partially gutted in fire at Colvale

Two rooms were gutted in a fire at the house of former umpire Xavier D'Souza on Thursday evening.

The incident took place at about 6 pm, when Xavier D'Souza was alone in the house while his family had gone out.

A short circuit is believed to have started the fire and the Mapusa fire station was notified.

A fire brigade rushed to the site and brought the fire under control with the help of locals.

By then, two rooms of the house had been gutted destroying a TV, laptop, cash, gold ornaments, cupboard, bed, and the roof, causing a loss of about Rs 7 lakh.

Colvale Sarpanch Ritesh Warkhandkar later visited the house and inspected the damages.
