Unauthorised waste dumping at a black spot in Margao caught on camera.

MARGAO
A concerted late night drive by a team of senior Margao Municipal officials led by Municipal Engineer Deepak Desai helped to intercept unscrupulous persons from dumping waste from neighbouring villages in the Municipal jurisdiction.

While the drive fetched revenue to the tune of Rs 40,000 to the civic body by way of fines, the exercise has again brought to the fore the continuous flow of waste from the neighbouring villages into the commercial capital.

In fact, CCTV footage showed how people carry bundles of waste from the villages before dumping at the city black spots.

In one instance, occupants of a two-wheeler were clearly seen dumping gunny bags laden with dry waste at a black spot at Rawanfond. The MMC is in the process of identifying the vehicle before moving the police to attach the vehicle for further action.

Municipal Engineer Deepak Desai informed that the team members conducted the late night drive to assess how much waste from the villages is flowing into the city “To our shock and surprise, people came in cars and two-wheelers and dumped the waste. We have managed to levy fines amounting to Rs 40,000. The drive will continue,” he added.
