Members of Baina Ramponkar and Fishing Canoes Owners Society, Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott and Old Cross Fishing Canoes Association of Khariwada on Friday threatened to intensify their agitation, if the government failed to fulfill their demands.
At the meeting convened by Baina Ramponkar and Fishing Canoes Owners Society in Vasco, the members said they have written a letter to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, requesting the government to regularise the houses of fishermen at Baina and Khariwada.
The members demanded that the 10 houses belonging to the fishermen at Baina, which were demolished, should be reconstructed by the government, failing which the fishermen will reconstruct the structures on their own.
They further threatened that if the government tried to stop the reconstruction carried out by the fishermen, then they would stall ongoing works of the four-lane highway.
The members also requested the government to stop the proposed ferry service from Baina beach to Dona Paula.
They warned the government that if their demands are not met, they would intensify their agitation and would vote against the government in the forthcoming assembly elections.
