MARGAO
Raising the issue at the gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Sandra Fernandes, panch member Orlando da Silva told the gram sabha that the house tax was not revised for the last ten years. Orlando proposed that houses where the annual house tax levied was less than `50 be brought on par with those who pay an annual house tax of `50.
While a section of the gram sabha had no objection to this proposal, but, with a rider that 48 per cent of those house who do not pay house tax must also be made to pay the same, some other locals felt it was better to leave this decision to the new panchayat body which will take office after the forthcoming panchayat polls.
Yet another proposal of hiking the panchayat hall rent to `5,000 for locals and `7,000 for outsiders was also discussed at the
gram sabha.
The annual budget for the year 2017-18 was also placed before the gram sabha. It has an expenditure component of `74,51,500 while the estimated income is pegged at `1,44,54,270. It was later passed by the gram sabha.
Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes also informed the gram sabha that LED lights will be installed in the village after the Holy Week.
