VASCO
Household items were gutted in a major fire at a house opposite Pai Hospital in Vaddem-Vasco on Wednesday morning. The house belonging to Sadanand Poojari was engulfed in flames while the owner was away.
Alert neighbours noticed thick black smoke billowing from the house and immediately informed Poojari and the Vasco Fire Station. Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to douse the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
Speaking to reporters, Poojari expressed his shock over the incident.
“I have been living here for many years, and I never expected something like this to happen. In fact, I had closed everything properly, including the cooking gas connection, before leaving for my native place this morning. I left around 9:30 am, but then I got a call that thick smoke was coming from my house. I rushed back only to find my home on fire,” he said.
He further added, “I am not sure what caused the fire”whether it was a short circuit or something else. My clothes, household appliances, bed, and other belongings have been destroyed.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are in progress.
