Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds caused damage to several houses, shops and electricity lines in Sattari taluka on Wednesday, after trees were uprooted at multiple locations, disrupting normal life.
Power supply was temporarily affected in several areas after trees fell on electricity lines. The Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services responded quickly, clearing fallen trees and helping restore traffic movement and power supply.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in the Chorla Ghat area, leading to increased river flow and a sharp rise in the water level of the Anjunem Dam reservoir.
Officials, however, said none of the rivers had crossed the danger mark and there was no flood-like situation.
Rain began early on Wednesday morning, with a brief break in the afternoon. Around 5 pm, conditions worsened again as strong winds swept across parts of Sattari, uprooting trees and blocking roads.
A large tree fell on the shop of Gajanan Gawas at Morlem, damaging the roof and destroying goods stored inside. Fire personnel later removed the fallen tree. Another tree fell on the market building near the Community Hall at Morlem Colony.
At Kumbharkhand, a coconut tree fell on an Anganwadi building, partially damaging its roof. The Valpoi Fire Brigade cleared the tree and secured the area.
Several locations faced temporary power outages after trees damaged electricity lines. The Fire and Emergency Services, Electricity Department and local authorities worked together to clear roads and restore power. Traffic movement returned to normal after the blockages were removed.
With the weather department forecasting more heavy rainfall in the coming days, the administration has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, not park vehicles under large trees, stay away from damaged power lines and immediately inform emergency services or local authorities in case of any incident.
