Housing board colony residents irked over lack of water supply

AE says water was released to Nerul, Reis Magos

PORVORIM

The residents of Porvorim are facing acute shortage of water as they did not receive water for two days consecutively on Friday and Saturday. Since water treatment plant at Porvorim has been shut down due to non receipt of water from Tillari, the water is being supplied to Porvorim from Assonora treatment plant on alternate days. As per schedule the water was supposed to be released to the residents of Housing Board colony and nearby areas on Saturday evening. Residents have been agitated since there was no water supply on Saturday.

One of the residents of United Co-op Housing Society, Housing Board block C Mahesh Prabhu  mentioned their society had hired 36 tankers at the rate of Rs 800/- per tanker from November 17 to December 17 and have spent an amount of Rs 28,800 for water.

Another resident Anthony Pereira mentioned that if Public Works Department is not in a position to meet the water requirements of the residents of Porvorim then why is panchayat giving construction licenses for new buildings.

When contacted the Assistant Engineer Dattaram Raikar mentioned that the residents of Reis Magos and Nerul did not receive water for 5 days consecutively. Hence the departmental meeting was held and it was decided to release water to Reis Magos and Nerul on priority basis . Tillari dam authorities have assured Water Resource Department regular  raw water supply from Tillari to Porvorim Treatment plant from December 22.  On receipt of this water, Porvorim water treatment plant will be restarted and water will be released daily to the residents of Porvorm, said Raikar.
