Huge crowds queued up to buy the donation coupons released by Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal at Sanguem on Tuesday.
The donation coupons were jointly released by Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Phaldessai at the Sanguem bus stand, where all prizes except the first prize is on display.
People queued up to buy the coupons even before the sale began at the Sanguem Municipal Hall a little after 9 am.
Besides locals, people from Karwar and other parts of Karnataka were also seen standing in line since morning to buy the donation coupons despite heavy rains.
With motto to make the donation coupons reach maximum people, the committee capped the sale of donation coupons to a maximum of two books each containing ten donation coupons per person.
The Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has released a total of 1 lakh donation coupons priced at Rs 500 each.
A 2BHK flat at Margao along with a cash of Rs 27 lakh is the first prize, while other prizes include a JCB machine, a ten-wheeler commercial vehicle, cars and two wheelers.
Incidentally, it is for the first time that the donation coupons released by Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal evoked such a good response during its 61 years of celebration of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav at Sanguem.
