The ‘all saints’ procession which is held on the fifth Monday of the lent, is a way of paying tribute to the saints during the lent season, which is a reminder of 40-day penance that Jesus Christ had gone through before he was crucified.
Life size statues of various Franciscan saints from India and abroad including the statue of Saint Joseph Vaz were taken in a procession. The prayer and other services were conducted by St Andrew’s Church parish priest Fr Emidio Pinto.
A large number of devotees gathered to have a glimpse of the life-size statues of the saints. The church authorities had made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the devotees to take part in the service.
The procession went around the Goa Velha market and returned back to the parish church.
The traffic from Goa Velha to Pilar was diverted and was controlled by the Agassaim Police.
The statues will be kept open for two days for public veneration.
The procession is unique to the state and takes place only in Goa and in Rome, according to sources.
