In a commendable move to promote the cause of menstrual hygiene, 40 companies and 2 schools have installed sanitary pads dispensing machines and incinerators so that women and girls can get pads free of cost.

Labour & Employment Minister, Rohan Khaunte, had announced sometime back that sanitary pads dispensing machines would be installed at industrial estates. After that, Goa Labour Welfare Board swung into action to ensure that the announcement is implemented.

Pacheco Fernandes, accounts officer, Goa Labour Welfare Board, said, “32 companies have installed sanitary pads dispensing machines and incinerators at their own cost after we had issued directions to them. These companies are also bearing the recurring expenses of such machines.”

“Over and above that, Goa Labour Welfare Board has installed sanitary pads dispensing machines and incinerators at 8 companies and 2 schools at its own expense. However, in this case, the companies and schools have to pay recurring expenses of buying sanitary pads and etc. on their own”, he disclosed.

The list of 32 companies, which have installed sanitary pads dispensing machines and incinerators at their own expense includes IFB, Goa Glass Fibre, Microlabs, Nestle, Glenmark, Siemens, Planet

Hollywood Beach Resort, Blue Cross, Indoco Remedies, Sanofi, Himachal Futuristics, Titan among others.

The list of 8 companies and 2 schools, where Goa Labour Welfare Board has installed these machines at its own cost includes St. Anthony’s High School in Majorda, Infant Jesus Higher Secondary School in Colva, Devyani Foods in Usgao, Aerocoach in Bethora, Joecons Beach Resort in Benaulim, Modern Plastic in Bethora, Jayraj Cashew Industries, Synegra in Verna, Sandu Pharmaceuticals in Pilerne and Mandovi Distilleries in Madkai.

The Board is working to ensure that more companies and schools install sanitary pads dispensing machines and incinerators in the State.

It may be recalled that Khaunte had said, the Labour and Dept would spend on installing sanitary pads dispensing machines and also incinerators.
