Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Nandadeep Raut on Thursday claimed to have been the first elected representative in the State to donate plasma when he took part in the exercise at the GMC hospital to mark the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

When contacted, Raut said he had been screened at a health camp organised by the Vasco BJP Mandal.

"I had been infected with the virus and after I recovered, I had planned to donate my plasma so that it can help save lives because I personally experienced the challenges faced by a person infected with Covid.”

“Though I had volunteered earlier, there had to be a screening done to check for the formation of antibodies. After attending a health camp at Ravindra Bhavan, I was informed that I had strong antibodies and I was a potential donor.”

“I then decided to donate my plasma and the day coincided with the 70th birthday celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making it a memorable day of my life.”

"I have become the first elected representative in the State to donate plasma. My plasma group is A +ve which is very much sought after plasma and I am glad to have donated my plasma.”

“I had the strongest immunity from among the nine people finalised for the plasma donation, which according to doctors, can lead to a quick recovery. The doctors have requested me to donate my plasma again for the second time in the next 15 days, to which I have agreed,” Raut added.Besides feeling good about donating his plasma, the MMC chairperson said he also wanted to lead by example, so that more people could come forward to donate their plasma, which is the need of the hour for Covid patients battling the virus.
