Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo on Sunday said that he has “advised” the speaker to curtail the duration of the budget session to three days in the interest of Goa.
“The chief minister is in charge of 23 portfolios. If he is not in the House no one will be able to answer his questions. Since he is unwell, the session needs to be curtailed. Even the opposition should cooperate at this juncture,” Lobo said.
He said the decision was only to place the budget before the House and get the vote of account.
“After the governor’s address we are likely to call the Business Advisory Committee meeting. I have spoken to the Speaker and also the Leader of the Opposition. We will curtail the assembly session to three days,” he said.
The deputy speaker said that questions, private member resolutions and all the other business of the House can be taken in the next session. “We can adjourn the House for number of days…That will be decided tomorrow…But I have advised the Speaker that the budget session be curtailed for three days,” Lobo said.
The deputy speaker said that the chief minister was better but he was advised by doctors not to attend the assembly session.
“If the doctors give him a green signal he may come to Goa on Monday evening. But as far as I know he’s been advised not to attend the session,” he said.
Not anyone can call BAC meet: Francis
MAPUSA: Urban Development Minister Francisco D’Souza on Sunday said that only authorized persons, and not “anyone”, can call the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting.
“BAC has to be called either by the Chief Minister or the Speaker or the Legislative Minister. Anybody cannot call the BAC meeting. Speaker is the chairman of BAC. He can call. It is up to him to call. Nobody else can call BAC,” D’Souza, who is also the Legislative Minister said.
He said he was not aware if there was any move to curtail the business of the House. “I spoke to the Speaker in the morning. He met the CM in Mumbai. They must have discussed something, I really don’t know. He said tomorrow the MLAs will meet and thereafter the BAC will meet,” he added.
CM needs time to recover: Sawaikar
PANAJI: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Sunday said Parrikar is continuing with his treatment making it unlikely that he will be available to attend the Budget session of the Assembly.
“On the advice of his doctors, Parrikar will be continuing treatment for pancreatitis in Mumbai. The treatment is in the right direction and he is responding to the same. However, he needs sufficient time to recover and be focused on the treatment. Expert doctors are taking good care of him. We are all praying for his speedy recovery,” Sawaikar said in a statement released to the media.
