The Madgaonkars have appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to honour the noted cinematographers, father-son duo, K Vaikunth and Atish Vaikunth, in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024. Representing the feelings of the citizens of Margao Prabhav Nayak, has appealed to the CM to include the event in IFFI in the birth centenary year of late K Vaikunth, and his son Atish Vaikunth who passed away this year on April 8.
Hailing from Margao the father-son have made a lasting impression in the cinematic world by their outstanding work and made Goa proud, said Prabhav Nayak, adding that the State should recognise their contribution to cinema and Bollywood. Born on August 25 in 1925, K Vaikunth (Vaikunth Kunkalienkar) had received the Filmfare award for his cinematography. “K Vaikunth was good at making portraits. He also offered training and guidance to several film producers, and it’s time the State recognised his talent,” said Nayak.
Like father, like son, Atish Vaikunth carried the legacy of his late father. His cinematography of ‘Boogie Boogie’ programme brought him fame. He was also the cinematographer of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, a popular music show, and worked as director of photography (DoP) for many Bollywood movies. Atish mirrored his father’s temperament, artistic approach and devotion to the craft. Grown among the glamorous film stars like Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar and poet-director Gulzar who visited his home as his father’s friends, Atish gradually gained an insight into the rigours expected in the film world. Following the voice of his heart, and after doing several movies, Atish shifted from big screen to small screen and made a lasting impact on both the mediums. “It’s time the State offers a tribute to this father-son duo in IFFI,” appealed Nayak.
