IGNOU plans study centers at prisons

The regional centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at Vijayapura (Bijapur) has proposed to set up special study centres at the central prisons in Belagavi and Vijayapura.


BELAGAVI:  
The move will help the prisoners in the central prison here at Hindalga who are looking forward to complete their higher education and were deprived of it.   
With one such center already operational at Ballari prison, the IGNOU authorities are upbeat with the good response they have received.   
Hindalga prison superintendent T P Shesha, who has recently started a library in the prison and is known for his innovative ways of bringing reforms in the prison, said a proposal in this regard has been forwarded to DG Prisons.   
“IGNOU officials visited the prison recently and worked out means and ways for implementing the distance education programme. About 30 inmates are keen to study.” TGN
