Acting on directions of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), the Deputy Collector of Bardez on Friday sealed the alleged illegal concrete construction in the No Development Zone (NDZ) at Calangute beach.
A team of GCZMA officials conducted a site inspection of the ongoing construction at Tivai-vaddo, Calangute and found several irregularities and violation of CRZ notification.
The coastal authority has also issued a stop-work order cum show-cause notice to the proprietor and called the owner for personal hearing on April 1.
The GCZMA Member Secretary Dashrath Redkar informed that the alleged illegal concrete construction was carried out within the NDZ and further, no approval was obtained from the GCZMA as required under the CRZ rules.
Later in a special GCZMA meeting, it was decided to seal the property until further orders.
“On the direction of the GCZMA we have sealed the property at Tivai-vaddo on Friday evening,” said Kapil Phadte, Deputy Collector of Bardez.
It may be recalled, the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) had complained to the Calangute panchayat and the GCZMA against the alleged illegal construction on March 1.
In the meanwhile, the Calangute panchayat conducted a site inspection of the alleged illegal construction along with the members of the CCF on Friday.
Calangute Sarpanch Dinesh Simepururshkar, panchayat secretary Raghuvir Bagkar and ward member Francis Rodrigues were present for the inspection.
According to CCF President Premanand Diukar, the panchayat inspection was done in a very casual manner without taking detailed measurements.
“We are not happy with the way the inspection was conducted by the panchayat. It looks like they have visited the site for namesake,” Diukar said.
“We will wait for the inspection report and accordingly take our next course of action,” he added.
