Retail fish vendors from the SGPDA retail market on Tuesday expressed their unhappiness over the ongoing action in the wholesale fish market pointing out that retail fish has not stopped in the wholesale fish market.
A delegation of fish vendors led by president Felix Gonsalves called on TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar to convey their unhappiness over the situation in the wholesale fish market. They pointed out that retail fish sale continues unabated in the wholesale fish market in the absence of continued action by the police and the Margao Municipal Council and the SGPDA officials.
The retail fish vendors pointed out that retail fish sale continues in the wholesale fish market even late mornings with migrant retail fish vendors doing brisk business right under the nose of the authorities.
Taking serious cognizance of the situation, the TCP Minister has directed the Police, MMC and the SGPDA to continue to crack down and ensure a total stop in the retail fish sale in the wholesale fish market. He assured the retail fish vendors that no leniency will be showed to vendors involved in illegal sale of retail fish in the wholesale fish market.
The vendors also told the SGPDA Member Secretary over the absence of cleanliness in the surroundings of the retail fish market. They also drew attention of the Member Secretary that the market footpaths are encroached by wild vegetation and other waste.
In the meantime, the Fatorda police informed that though the police make their presence felt at the wholesale fish market every morning, the MMC and PDA officials are conspicuous by their
absence.
The Fatorda police station has booked three persons on Tuesday morning under section 34 of the Indian Police Act while selling items in the market area.
