Illegal sand extraction site raided

An illegal sand extraction site was raided and around 34,000 cubic metres of sand were seized at Chicalim in Colvale on Wednesday, Colvale Police informed.

The illegal sand extraction activity was happening along the bank of River Chapora in Chicalim village.

The police raided the site at around 2 am and found around 34,000 cubic metres of extracted sand near the river bank.

Police conducted the panchanama and seized the extracted sand.

Later, the mines department filed a police complaint against one Videsh Dhargalkar and others in connection with the illegal extraction of sand.

Colvale Police registered an offence under section 379 of the IPC and section 3 and 38 of the Goa Daman Diu Minor Mineral Act against the accused.

PSI Mandar Parab is investigating further.
