Despite previous efforts by the municipal authorities to end the activity, vendor were seen doing business illegally at the Comunidade square in Margao on Sunday.
Notably, the vendors were not allowed to operate in the square adjoining the Margao Municipal building under the stint of then Margao Municipal Chief Officer Rohit Kadam during the tenure of then Chairperson Lyndon Pereira.
It is not clear if the vendors had taken advantage of the fact that municipal officials are not on duty on Sunday to operate in the square.
Earlier, Kadam had deployed municipal staff even after office hours to ensure that the illegal vending does not take place in the square.
Sources claimed that the square also bustles with hectic activity during early morning before the Margao Municipal officials and staff report for duties.
The vendors had been stopped from operating in the square to prevent traffic in the area.
