Due to the severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy, high waves warning has been issued along the coast of Goa even as fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
The IMD has issued high waves warning in the range of 3.5 - 4.1 meters up to 23:30 hours of June 11 along the coast of Goa between Vengurla and Vasco as the result of the cyclonic storm. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea for the next few days.
The Goa State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has also issued an advisory asking people not to panic, avoid plying small vessels and to totally suspend all near seashore recreation activities.
The authority has also announced emergency contact numbers: 08322419550, 08322225383, 08322794100 so that those in distress can contact these numbers.
Meanwhile, the very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy over Eastcentral Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a speed of 7 kmph during past six-hours and lay centred about 700 km west-northwest of Goa, 620 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 600 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 910 km south of Karachi.
It is very likely to intensify further and move north-northeastwards gradually during the next 24 hours. Then it would move gradually north-northwestwards during subsequent three days.
