MLA vows to take up issues of locals on edu hub land

MARGAO
Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar on Saturday said he would take up with the government the needs of the people of Navelim constituency such as a playground and a health centre at the government acquired land at Davorlim village for the education hub.

He also underscored the need to build a new road connecting the proposed education hub, fearing that setting up of the education hub without alternate road would plunge Davorlim into traffic chaos.

Briefing the media on the party’s programme for the current month and his achievements as MLA of Navelim constituency for the last one year, the MLA further said the government has not taken any decision on the question whether the government will take over the premises of the existing schools in Margao once they are shifted to the proposed education hub. “This is one question which will be dealt with by the government. I had taken up the issue of education hub on the floor of the House after I was elected to the Assembly last year. Land for the project was acquired over a decade ago. The government had informed me that the demarcation of the property has been completed,” he said.

When the media sought to know whether the government will take over the buildings of the Margao schools once the schools are shifted to the government acquired land at the education hub, he said no decision has been taken on the future status of the buildings of schools shifted to the education hub.

He conceded that Davorlim village will witness traffic woes if an alternate road from the Gogol Housing board is not built to connect the proposed education hub.

Asked to comment on the controversy over the tuition and counselling classes conducted at residential houses at the sensitive Rumdamol village, which has threatened to snowball into law and order issue, the MLA came out clear against the activity, saying no religious activity should be conducted at a residential place causing hardships to the people of the locality.

“I have told the village sarpanch to act against the illegality. However, the party has approached the Salcete BDO. All religious activities should be conducted at the place of worship and not at any residential house, causing nuisance and hardships to others,” he added.
