MARGAO
Traders of the Margao Municipal New Market are up in arms against the Margao Municipal Council for what they called as harassment meted out by the civic body.
In fact, president of Margao New Market Traders Association Vinod Shirodkar trained his guns at the Margao city fathers, pointing out that the present MLAs, Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai, besides former MLA Damu Naik had never harassed the new market traders over the years.
Citing an instance over the timing of closure of the market, Vinod pointed out that the traders had asked the civic body to allow the market open till 11 pm in order to facilitate them to store the rainwear, including footwear after business hours. “But, we have come to know that two councillors have raised questions to our plea, which we have also made before Margao MLA Digambar Kamat,” he said.
He trained his guns at the MMC saying the civic body has till date not addressed issues plaguing the Portuguese era market.
