OLD GOA
The Curca locals have rejected the fresh Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) sent by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and have sought implementation of the plan prepared by the villagers.
The decision was taken at a village development committee (VDC) meeting held in the panchayat hall on Saturday.
Speaking at the meeting, local Manguesh Kuttikar pointed out that there was no point in further discussion on the CZMP as the villagers have already painstakingly prepared the plan.
“We resolve that the plan prepared by the villagers be sent back to the GCZMA for its implementation. There is no scope for further discussion in the matter,” Kuttikar stated.
Kuttikar also pointed out that the fresh CZMP plan had no signature of any authority, which raises doubt over its authenticity.
Meanwhile, there was heated discussion witnessed at the meeting between Kuttikar and the panchayat authorities over construction of steps along a traditional pathway.
“I am a physically challenged person and the construction of the steps will hinder movement of persons like me along the pathway,” Kuttikar pointed out, while decrying that his suggestions have been ignored despite him being the VDC convenor.
However, Sarpanch Verodiana D’Souza stated that the meeting was called for discussion on CZMP and not other issues.
