Mapusa Police cracked theft cases by break-opening the dickey of scooters in crowded markets and on Saturday arrested three persons who had reportedly robbed a gold chain from the dickey of a scooter in Mapusa more than a month back. The gold chain worth Rs 2 lakh has been recovered.
The accused were identified as Vimlesh Horilal (42) native of UP and his two associates “ Santosh Kattimani (34) native of Bijapur and Khushi Lal (35) of UP.
According to police, the accused used to target two-wheelers in crowded places and break open the dickey and remove the valuables from it.
In this particular case, the complainant Raja Halarnkar of Gaunsavaddo, Mapusa said some unknown persons broke open the dickey of the Yamaha Fascinho scooter and decamped with a plastic bag containing the gold chain weighing 40 grams and worth Rs 2 lakh.
Mapusa Police formed various teams and through extensive technical surveillance traced the main accused Vimlesh Horilal and apprehended him from his place of stay in Arpora-Nagoa.
During the investigation the accused revealed the names of the other two associates who were also placed under arrest.
The accused admitted their involvement in the crime and the gold chain was also recovered from their possession. It may be recalled, in a similar incident, cash was stolen from a parked scooter by opening the dickey of a two-wheeler parked in Mapusa sub-yard. The incident was captured on CCTV camera.
